Frequently Asked Questions:
How old do you have to be to enter the Chalk Art Competition?
There are three different competitions this year:
The Adult competition: you need to be at least 16 years old to sign up in this category. There is no upper age limit.
The Teen competition: this is for ages 13-17.
The Youth competition: this is for ages 6-12.
What time can I start on my art piece if I am participating in the art competition? What time does my piece need to be finished?
You can start at 10:00 am / All art pieces need to be finished by 5:00 pm
Can I put together a team to participate in the art competition? How do I sign up as a team?
Yes you can participate as a team on an art piece for the competition. One person needs to register online. On the day of the event you can give us the names of the remaining team members. In the event that you win a prize, the team determines how that will be distributed.
What is the deadline for entering?
The deadline for entering the art competition is Aug. 15th. But the sooner you sign up the better, we only have so many spots.
What size is the space to draw on?
The spaces are about 12 x 12 ft. Most of these are marked parking spots on the street, so size may vary. If you think your piece may be bigger, get on location early and pick a larger spot (first come first pick). The piece does not have to fill the whole space, so it can be smaller than 12 x 12 ft if you would like..
Can a tempera (washable) paint be used as an underlying base coat for the chalk?
No you can use washable tempera paint. The city has recommended that we do not use this on the streets.
Can hairspray be used as a (washable) fixative?
Yes, you can use hairspray if you would like, we have past experience with this and it does wash off.
Can artist handmade templates be used?
Yes, you can use hand made templates if you would like.
